Mondo Festival, Feb. 6-7, 1999

by Tammy Marsh

Our first unicycling and juggling festival, MONDO X in St. Paul, Minn., Feb. 6-7, was totally amazing!!!!

Not only did we get to hang out with all the cool people in the Twin City Unicycle Club, but we got to try a whole bunch of different kinds of unicycles and learn new tricks. Before this weekend, we had never seen anyone walk the wheel, stand-up walk the wheel, hand walk the wheel, glide, jump mount, or kick-up mount in real life. Now, we're in the process of learning many new things like wheel walking and new mounts. My greatest achievement of the weekend would have to be learning the suicide mount - I can't believe I did it! That is so amazing!

We got to try 16" unis, 20", 24", 28" and even a 36" uni - WOW. We also tried a double wheeler, an ultimate wheel, a B.C. wheel, and a rola bola!!

And the juggling was really incredible - balls, clubs, rings, torches, machetes, batons - 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 things in the air! Great team juggling, contact juggling, and unicycling while juggling and tons of amazing patterns. Also -- yo-yos, diabolos, devil sticks, and balancing. We saw people balance clubs on their chins while juggling and/or unicycling, balance roses or unicycles or even huge long tables!

We also got our first taste of unicycle hockey, which was really cool and very exhausting. AND we got to ride in our first-ever parade with the TCUC in downtown St. Paul! It was incredibly cool. :) :)

I'm certainly inspired!!

Okay, now we have to brag about all the cool people we've met: Andy and Connie Cotter, Dana Schneider, Ryan and Ashley Wood, Dick, Tammy, Dedra and Dillon Divine, Kris Donohoo, Colin Schworer, Kevin "Gilby" Gilbertson, Cameron and Preston Ulmer, Heather LeVeusser, and lots more!!
